Tie One On For Safety

MADD Nebraska conducts Tie One On For Safety, our most popular public awareness campaign.  The campaign runs from Thanksgiving through New Year’s Day when road travel increases and the threat of drunk driving is most prevalent.   Tie One On For Safety asks Nebraskans to place a red ribbon on their vehicles as a pledge to drive safe, sober, and buckled up during the holidays and throughout the year.  Our message includes safety belts because they are the best defense against a drunk driver.

Tie One On For Safety Goals

  • Encourage Nebraskans to tie a red ribbon to their vehicles or display a window decal as a pledge to drive safe, sober and buckled up and to support MADD’s Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving.
  • Increase awareness about drunk driving during the holiday season.
  • Offer suggestions to deter drunk driving through MADD’s safe party tips and the promotion of designate a sober driver programs.
  • Increase MADD Nebraska’s identity with the red ribbon and its symbolic meaning to prevent drunk driving and help save lives.

Tie One On!

It’s easy to help reduce drunk driving through Tie One On For Safety. Here are some great ideas to get started:

  • Attach a MADD red ribbon or decal in a prominent place on your own vehicle.
  • Always designate a non-drinking driver before drinking begins.
  • Provide MADD red ribbons to your office or place of worship.
  • Set up a MADD red ribbon distribution box in your office or church.
  • Pass out MADD red ribbons as people leave any meeting to drive home.

Where Can I Get a MADD Red Ribbon?

In 2007, Hy-vee stores sponsored the Tie One On For Safety campaign in Nebraska. You can pick up a MADD ribbon at your local Hyvee store, police station, and library or you can contact the MADD Nebraska state office at staff@maddnebraska.org or by phone at 402-434-5330 or 1-800-444-6233.
