PAPILLION (KPTM)- For nearly two years now, a Papillion family has been looking for clues as to why a man accused of killing their parents in a drunk driving accident is still on the run. "I know for myself, I look at that picture every day and I have ever since we first got it two or three months after he first killed them," says Michele Pennington.
The picture she's referring to is a snapshot of Brian Andrews, the man accused in the manslaughter deaths of her parents, Danny and Patricia McCown. It was June of 2007 when Pennington and her sister, Dana McCown, found out their parents had been killed on a Florida highway by Andrews. "This individual had three DUI's prior to killing our parents, so mom and dad would've been his fourth, and there's no doubt in my mind he's still driving," says McCown.
Andrews is still on the road because after posting bond, he fled. It's left the sisters who now live in Papillion searching for answers from Florida authorities about the case. "Really in my heart, I believe had it been handled differently from the beginning, the results would be different today," says McCown. But earlier this year, the family finally found an ally in Sarpy County Sheriff's Lt. Russ Zeeb. "Both these girls are now citizens of Sarpy County, citizens of the Omaha metro, and I don't care how people are, if they've got an incident like that, and I can help, I'm going to do it," says Zeeb.
One of his ideas was enlisting help from America's Most Wanted, which is profiling the open case on its web site and even considering a mention on its TV show. The move is ironic because the daughters say their dad Danny was a longtime cop. "He was an ex-cop. He watched America's Most Wanted every week," says Pennington.
They say thanks to Lt. Zeeb, the exposure from the show could lead to an arrest, and finally some closure. "Our lives can never go back to 5:25 p.m. on that Saturday. Our lives are forever changed," says McCown.
