Cyndee McCarthy - State Victim Advocate

My name is Cyndee McCarthy and I am the State Victim Advocate for MADD Nebraska. In the spring of 2003 my life changed in an instant because of a repeat drunk driver. Six years ago I never thought I would be able to do some of the things I do today. Just to get out of bed, knowing that no matter what the sun would come up. So many obstacles I endured but I forged forward. The world keeps going, I guess you can say I learned first hand that I am only a person and the world does not evolve around me alone. I need to evolve with the world and help others move forward. Helping one person at a time gives MADD more clout every year. I began volunteering with MADD Nebraska 5 years ago and 2 years ago I accepted the position to become the State Victim Advocate. It has been tough at times but more rewarding than I can put into words. I work with many victims and families. I have touched them in ways I never realized I could. With the help of MADD I have the tools needed to assist a person who is grieving or needs to know how the court system works. Once someone is given the courage to help themselves and their families and friends move forward the healing begins. The importance of a crash report or knowing the reason the Victim Impact Statement is so important. The courage to contact the County Attorney to find out why. I believe the most important thing to me having this job is being here just to listen when someone needs to have someone who understands where they are and how they feel. It is tough and nothing will ever be the same but moving forwards is possible.

Rachel Janecek - Program Coordinator

My name is Rachel Janecek and I am the Program Coordinator for MADD Nebraska. I joined the MADD team in February 2006. Since I started, I have had the opportunity to take on many new and exciting challenges. For the past 2 years I have been coordinating MADD’s Victim Impact Panels. Coordinating the panels has allowed me to travel all over Nebraska and meet so many people who share MADD’s goals. I love working with all of our amazing volunteers, they are definitely the heart of MADD!
I collaborate on many MADD events such as Law Enforcement Awards, Tie One On For Safety, and Victims' Rights Week. I also help with the “business” side of MADD, giving me the opportunity to use my educational background in business/management. I have learned a lot since joining MADD in 2006. I’m grateful for all the opportunities that MADD has given me and for all the amazing people I have worked with to strive to achieve MADD’s mission.
